Rothko Arrives

Rothko Arrives, Mixed Media on canvas, 16"x20"

Much in the news about the arrival of the Rothko No. 210/211 (Orange) at Crystal Bridges.

The photo in this morning's paper inspired me to do a welcome painting.

Which may prompt some to ask, as someone did last week, "How long did it take you to do that?"

Answer: Almost 57 years.

Tim, as a tour guide at Crystal Bridges we were able to tour the "Light" exhibition on yesterday. When I saw your painting I was floored. James Turrell artwork gave an ethereal and transcendental light through the experience of light perception. Your two dimensional painting gave a similar experience. It's as if you're walking through a portal of time and maybe enlightenment. I adore this painting...great job! Turrell wanted his installation across from Rothko, you were able to embody both artist simultaneously.
